When it comes to tackling consent, who needs to take action?
Well, the answer is simple.
Every single one of us needs to do it.
But today's adults, in particular, have a unique and really urgent opportunity to shape the future. We have the power to foster a generation that truly understands and values healthy relationships.
It's a responsibility we can't afford to ignore.
Here's the thing. Almost everyone agrees that consent is important. But so many of us feel completely ill equipped to discuss it. After all, open conversations about sex and consent weren't exactly common in previous generations. These days, we know more.
Today's young people are increasingly forming their understanding of sex and consent from potentially damaging sources like peer pressure, pornography and the misogynistic messages of the ‘manospere’.
Instead of turning away from this, we have the opportunity to shape their understanding for the better.
The conversations we have and the examples we set today, can empower our children and young people to reject harmful trends like sexism, pornography use, and sexual violence, and help them to have healthy relationships.
